Currently the proud owner of a 2003 Beetle Cabriolet 2.0 I would like to make some savings on my car expenses. I’m 20 and despite the larger engine it is cheaper to ensure than my old vauxhall Corsa 1.0! Add in the tax and I could save about £1000 pa just by switching to a classic that is pre 1973 (avoid road tax).
Considering a beetle, notchback or fastback veedub ideally with the larger 1600 engine. Does anyone have any advice?

I might be getting a Morris 10 (1940’s I think) (not really a classic, but similar), I have been to look at it and since it’s been in a shed for 20yrs it hasn’t aged too badly. Its got the usual “old car” rust, mostly surface stuff thats lifted the paint a bit, a few small “cancers” but they are not deep. Like the good old cars, the metal is 1.4mm or similar mild steel so that’s fixable. There are one or two places where the rust has really set in that will need to be cut out tho.
My question is, whats the best and most cost effective way to get rid of the rust? I’m guessing since it needs new paint i’ll need all the paint off too so whats the cheapest and/or easiest way to go about this? I’m guessing sand blasting or maybe soda blasting? If it’s one of those whats the best and why? I’m thinking soda blasting wouldn’t be enough to get all the rust? What about post stripping? What should I paint it with after? These guys are near http://www.steamsand.co.nz/ and they post treat the metal with zinc I think. Is this a good way to go or can you not prime/paint over that?
Thanks for the help, I dont have any good friends who can tell me this panel work stuff, plenty of mechanic pals who are keen help fix her up though! Electronics I can do, engine work, sort of, panel work, not so well learned.
Here are some pics of it, its a wee bit worse in person :p http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/88/202933488_full.jpg

I’ve had my iPod Classic for about 5 years now. Never ever had a problem with it. 2 days ago I was listening to it in my room on a Bose Sounddock Series II that I got for Christmas (I’m just including all the details of what I did in case they factor into the problem). I was leaving to go to a party so I took it to my car so I could listen to it on the way. When I turned it on in the car the click wheel wouldn’t work. The iPod would play music, however I was unable to scroll up or down through my music. I decided to reset it by holding down the middle and menu button.
When it restarted the Apple logo came up for a few seconds then disappeared. It started up again by itself, the Apple logo came up again and then disappeared again. Then I got a message saying to use iTunes to restore it.
When I plug it into my computer it doesn’t show up on my desktop (which it usually does). I just get a message saying “The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.” The only time it is detected is if iTunes is open. Then iTunes tells me “iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.” All of my software is up to date and everything.
I don’t want to restore it because that will erase everything that’s on there. I have songs I have written, friend’s songs they have written, thousands of songs and musicals (I’m an aspiring actor) that I won’t remember… All of which will be lost because they were lost when my last hard drive crashed on my computer. So the only place all the songs I wrote (which are the most important to me) was on my iPod… Please help!! I can’t lose those things!

After the new update a couple days ago (added Italian cars, Italian pack and playlist, and more cars), how do you unlock the new cars that say you need to beat 10 multiplayer objectives on a classic car, technical or signature car, etc. playlist? I haven’t seen any of these playlists on the game at all. I am ecspecially wanting the tier 6 challenger RT (vanish), the tier 6 lancer evo, and the tier 6 mustang super snake Shelby gt that is carbon fiber black (its called roon or 1200?) signature edition I think.
Thank you.

I work hard and support my family on a shoestring. I am getting a refund and am getting a replacement car. I should spend as much as possible on a car, maybe save some, help SO other pay on his fines. But I could spend a bit less on the car and get by okay. I found the most wonderful thing and completely fell in love with it- but it costs $500 (negotiated down from $650). Its the GoKart I’ve wanted since I was a kid, its the best deal ever, practically a steal. I havent splurged and spent as much as $100 on myself for any luxuries since my son was born 9 years ago. I really want it, and me & my son could soup it up and ride it together. Its a 2seater 6horsepower Yerf-Dog GoKart, it goes up to 35mph but is safe and recommended 12and up, it has roll bars and a yerf-dog leather seats. I’ve never owned anything like. I have plans of how I’d restore it, what parts to get, talked to folks who can assist and i can do it cheap, its in good condition. The guy selling it has other buyer, I need to decide in the morning. As a resposible mother I would feel like I squandered my family money selfishly, I should be saving for an emergency. But I deserve something after 10 years of devoting every penny to teh bills and my boy and I would make memories. Its a once in a lifetime chance. My husband doesnt think its that great an idea but isnt really against it, I know he wouldnt be happy but he told me I have never asked for anything in 10 years of marraige and never treat myself to luxuries, I’m too practical a person. My husband has expensive drums and disc golf equipment. But we are on a shoestring budget. Either way I go here I lose, I will regret speding money on it if I get it, and I will forever regret passing he it up if I dont. A classic handmade Yerf is out of production and the guys divorcing and parting with it for peanuts. Please give me your opinions!!!!
Thanks guys! Its a tough one for me, I live paycheck to paycheck and it scares me to spend money on that. I worry about everything, like what if my car breaks down and I could have fixed it but the responsible adult here blew her money on a GoKart. But I am almost sure I’m getting it.I have never wanted a material possession so much in my life! My son could grow up remembering restoring, decorating and driving with mom in his passenger seat of the coolest fast go-kart, thats the stuff that builds mother-son bonds.: )

The weather stripping still has some flexibility and sponginess but is just about done. I am looking for something to stretch out it’s life for a few more years. does any one know of some way to bring back it’s pliability
It’s a rare classic car that does not have replacement parts for what I need, so I need information to soften the rubber parts I all ready have. If you don’t have an answer to the question or don’t know anything about what you are talking about. Do not reply.
